Autism And Babies

Autism is a disease that affects millions of people all around the world.  In fact, at this particular time the disease affects one out of every 166 individuals and has been on the rise for the past several years.  There are several different things that cause the disease as well as some speculative problems that may also contribute to a person developing autism.  What is it that causes this disease, what is the connection between autism and babies and what can be done about it?

Autism is a highly hereditary disease that affects people in their young life.  It also continues to affect them throughout their lifetime.  Most of the time, the parents will notice the signs of autism within the first few years of a child's life.  There is also a connection between autism and babies as far as some things that cause potential birth defects in infants.  It is also thought that autism may also come from such things as childhood vaccinations although this is quite controversial and does not have any backing scientifically.

What can be done about autism and babies that have autism?  Since there is no cure for this particular disease, it is often necessary to treat the individual throughout their lifetime so that they are able to get along in society as well as possible.  That is why it is imperative to be able to recognize this particular disease early in the child's life so that steps can be taken to help to improve their lifestyle.  There are many different treatments that have proven to be effective in helping certain individuals with autism to overcome parts of their disease.  Each person is different, however, and must be treated as an individual.

As autism and babies with autism continues to occur at an increasing rate, additional help may be necessary in order to help these individuals to deal with their autism.  Not only that, help is also necessary in order to give the family some relief from the care that is needed for these individuals.

Autism Fact #1

Because of the special way autistic minds function, normal teaching methods don't work. Understanding how the autistic mind functions, allows you to take advantage of this functionality to provide specialized teaching that will help young autistic minds learn much more rapidly than they could with standard teaching methods.

Autism Fact #2

The autistic mind tends to function in a visual manner. Specialized teaching for autism makes heavy use of pictures. Using words to describe something is nearly useless. Providing pictures of what you are describing is much more successful. Even better though is taking the child to see the actual item or place being described.

Autism Fact #3

Take advantage of the natural skills an autistic child may have, instead of focusing on weaker points. It is interesting to note that although autistic children tend to be visual and are often very good at drawing, they can also be very good with music. Take advantage of this by creatively using music and art as part of teaching other topics.
